David Melvin, MD, PhD,  a cardiac transplant and device surgeon with a second earned doctorate, left clinical practice 15 years ago to concentrate on engineering approaches to challenges in clinical surgery.

Natalia Juncosa-Melvin, MS, PhD has been the Scientific Director of the company since 2007. She received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and created an outstanding research program as a postdoctoral fellow in Tissue Engineering.
